The Co-op Free-Range Eggs have been announced by the retailer as part of its commitment to embracing 100% free-range eggs and expanding access to high-quality ingredients. The eggs will come in white and brown options, which will be sourced from British farms from Lohmann LSL hens that are known for their welfare, extended laying cycles and optimal feed utilization. The white eggs will make up around 10% of the convenience retailer's entire egg supply at launch with the goal to shift this to 30% by the third year.
Co-op Agricultural Specialist Mark Kempsell spoke on the Co-op Free-Range Eggs saying, "We know our member owners and customers care about where their food comes from and that’s why we’re proud of this next step in welfare following our commitment to sell 100% free range eggs across our stores – this is part of our ongoing commitment to champion the best of British all year around, and we’re thrilled this will be further supported by our long-term plan to roll out white eggs."
