Minimalist Multicultural Cookbooks

Moé Takemura's Cookbook Design Organizes Ingredients By Color

This minimalist cookbook design by Moé Takemura depicts ingredients as color swatches. Foreign Japanese Sweets is a cookbook for beginners, teaching them how to make Far Eastern snacks out of Western ingredients. The cookbook is intended to help readers in the West make traditional Japanese treats.

Moé Takemura explains growing multiculturalism in food culture and how it's reflected in the cookbook design: "Despite the variety, the coffee/tea break snack is still limited to European desserts like cookies and cakes." The designer encourages looking for inspiration outside of your comfort zone and experimenting with Japanese snacks. Many of them are also gluten-free and vegan friendly as they use rice flour and bean paste.

Moé Takemura also created the Guide to the Foreign Japanese Kitchen.
