Comic Con Coins

Shaun Hughes Creates Pop Culture Carvings on Metal Tokens

If there was ever a currency for geeks, it would involve something like these comic con coins. Although not made specifically for the popular international event, they could easily be used to barter for signed posters, action figures and more. Of course, each metal token is carefully and strenuously worked on in order to maintain detail and precision.

Created by Shaun Hughes, an artist based in the United Kingdom, these comic con coins are a part of a larger collection of carved pennies, nickles and more. In addition to portraits of Spiderman, Yoda and Jessica Rabbit, Hughes has carved unlikely renditions of President Abraham Lincoln, Ganesh and even a couple of circling sharks. This is perhaps even more impressive than paintings on similar small objects. To carve these surfaces is not an easy task.
