Artistic Museum Renovations

The Renovations to the Clark Art Institute Have Finally Been Revealed

Tadao Ando and Annabelle Selldorf created new spaces for Massachusetts' Clark Art Institute, an establishment that was just recently reopened to the public, following a ten-year renovation.

The expansion includes Ando's gallery and visitor center, which features temporary exhibition spaces and a restaurant, along with several buildings and galleries renovated by Selldorf Architects. In total, the renovation, which was put in motion in 2004, adds more than 1,2000 meters of gallery space to the art institute.

Director Michael Conforti explains, "Since developing our master plan more than ten years ago, we have worked diligently to connect our program and support spaces with our extraordinary landscape. What now looks simple, and so logical, has been achieved through a complex and environmentally sensitive design and construction program that unites many disparate parts."
