Laptops, desktops and tablets might be taking over the world, but this new revamped typewriter titled Chromatic Typewriter by Tyree Callahan will take the art world by storm. The Washington-based painter gave a different functionality to an old-fashion writing machine, creating a piece that types mesmerizing organic shapes through colors.
Callahan altered a 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter by removing the letters and incorporating color pads and keys. This functional device is able to paint beautiful pieces filled with gorgeous and vibrant tonalities. The keypad was arranged with shades, making it look like a pretty rainbow.
By finding new uses to typewriters, the Chromatic Typewriter is helping keep a-soon-to-be-extinct machine alive and productive. This invention was submitted to the 2012 West Prize competition, which is an annual prize determined by the public.
