Sitting by all by youself on a park bench—never mind why you’re sitting there alone in the first place—can get lonely. The CHITCHAT seating changes how public seating works by making people who sit on it actually socialize with one another. Or that’s what the designer Teun Fleskens hopes.
Fleskens designed the CHITCHAT seating, which accommodates seven people, to rock about whenever someone sits on it. Because it surprises you by moving, you’re more inclined to interact with the other person. Says the designer, "The ‘rocking trees’ in the centre ensure a playful effect, especially when there are several CHITCHATS in a single space."
