CharitySub (INTERVIEW)

An Online Platform for Simplified Giving

This CharitySub interview digs into the business and giving model of the organization. With four co-founders who all do other things outside of CharitySub, a lot of work goes into this simplified way to donate your money online.

SocialBusiness.org spoke to one of the co-founders, Amy Crews, and she outlines the unique team dynamic that makes the platform work.

Four Questions with CharitySub

1. How did the idea for the business model come about?

The CharitySub team was looking to address a few areas in the world of giving: How much to give? Where to give? and How is my money helping?

Firstly, how much to give? We started with $5 for our subscription for giving, as we really wanted to be as absolutely inclusive as possible. While only a small sum, collectively we can make a big impact.

Secondly, where to give? This is a challenge many face with thousands upon thousands of charities to support. Which ones are the fiscally responsible, sustainable and really dedicated to making a difference? We wanted to surface those good organizations and help bring much needed funding and awareness to their work.

Lastly, how is my money helping? Our impact reports really allow us to bring giving full circle. Through the partnership with our non-profits, we tell the story to our members of how together as a community we made a difference.

2. How did you decide to join this sector?

There are four co–founders of CharitySub and while we all maintain outside full-time employment, CharitySub is an organization driven by passion and love that we dedicate our nights and weekends to. We all have our own individual interests as it pertains to philantrophy and supporting others. CharitySub allows us to bring those interests to life on a unique platform, making impact across varied issues each month.

3. How do you get your inspiration?

We are four individuals who believe that we can all do good in the world and CharitySub allows us to make a difference with our community of givers who join the CharitySub family. Seeing the collective impact we have made to date is huge inspiration for us. With seven causes featured and 21 non-profits supported, we are only just getting started.

4. How do you reset yourself to be creative? Do you have any rituals?

No rituals to speak of per se but as a team we do make sure to take time and reflect on the great work we are doing. It is easy to get lost in day-to-day work, but we are surrounded by inspiring stories of great people and our wonderful non-profit partners. We use this awesome and positive energy to energize us, making each month a whole new experience for our CharitySub members.
