Polish designer Alicja Patanowska has created a series of ceramic planters that fit inside the circumference of a glass, leaving the root and stem visible.
Noticing that there were a lot of discarded glasses on the streets of London, Patanowska went looking for a way to give them new life. The glasses act as a foundation for the porcelain pots, which she hand-threw. Besides making the entire growing process of the plant visible, the project is also meant to highlight the value of the glass as a material.
Moreover, the pots can also be flipped over, creating a miniature greenhouse that will facilitate seed germination. Of the project, Patanowska explains, "Plantation is a natural continuation of my artistic inquiry into the social and environmental implications of waste."
