Metal Screw Portraits

This Artist Creates Beautiful Portraits Using Carpentry Screws

Artist Andrew Myers created these intricately detailed human portraits using carpentry screws. The use of this creative and nontraditional art material adds a textural aspect to each image. The various heights at which screws are drilled into the wooden backdrops allow for enhanced image shadows and levels of depth.

The images include both male and female subjects of various ages. Each one uses the same concept and displays an immaculately vivid portrait that looks like a pixel-made computer graphic. The unique aspect of this art series is that those who are visually impaired are able to touch the images and physically see what others can visually see.

Each of the carpentry screws is painted one color to add a visually appealing detail to the images as well. The screws are drilled into a board and are then painted to create an uneven canvas.
