Caroline Kernick Creates Couture Jewelry Out of Card Materials

Little would you know that Caroline Kernick's latest couture-worthy collection, appropriately titled 'Papier Gouaché,' is made entirely out of card paper jewelry. With her critical eye for detail and her talented technique, Kernick knows how to manipulate Maya-card and gouache pigments to recreate glimmering gems and perfect pearls that appear to have depth and shine.

Drawing inspiration from the European arts, including the ballets of Sergei Diaghliev and the architecture of the Paris Bataclan, Kernick likens fine jewelry to "the biggest architectural and technical projects challenging human craftsmanship." This is not surprising as her card paper jewelry is incredibly detailed and extravagantly designed.

It would be almost impossible to tell these pieces apart from those in museum archives, that is, until they are picked up -- only the weight of jewels gives away their secret.
