Pennsylvania-based transportation technology company Momentum Dynamics has unveiled a high-tech electric bus charger that is designed to enable public transit buses to receive battery top-ups in an efficient manner that doesn't infringe on the routes that they're supposed to take.
What's great about this particular bus charger is that it does its job during vehicle's scheduled stops, rather than requiring them to make additional stops. The technology is currently being used on the BYD K9S bus, giving it a battery top-up every time it makes its scheduled five-minute stop at the Washington-based Wenatchee bus stop.
While the concept of electric buses have always been appealing, the logistical challenges of adding battery-charging stops to already busy transit schedules have hindered wider adoption of electric motoring in the public transit space.
