Vincent Rosenblatt’s photos of Brazilian youth in Rio de Janeiro’s impoverished and notoriously violent Favelas were featured in an exhibit at 'La Maison Eurepeenne de la Photographie.' Far from Rio’s Touristic center, Favela includes youths who express their opposition to the fragmantation between rich and poor through Brazilian Funk culture.
The reality of Rio’s marginalized ghettos is far from the post-card images of colourful samba dancing and flawless bodies on white sandy beaches that our minds conjure when thinking of Brazil. "Bailes Funk" are dance parties, but they are also a codified urban ritual in which "funkeiros" come to show off their moves and escape the hardships they face in the Favelas.
Brazilian Funk is an urban remix of Brazilian culture that has been developing in the poorer areas of Rio de Janeiro since the early 90s and is now well-ingrained into the city’s urban life.
