BNN: Jeremy Gutsche and Trend Hunter on Facebook and Teenage Rebellion

Bnn Jeremy Gutche

Innovation keynote speaker Jeremy Gutsche recently sat down with BNN to discuss why Facebook is witnessing a decline in teenage usage. According to Gutsche, Facebook no longer offers that "cool factor" to teens, who instead are seeking out other social networks like Instagram and Snapchat. Its cool factor is decreasing due to the fact that it has reached its ten-year mark and now acts as a host to adults and parents. Teenagers don't want to be using the same sites as their parents.

He does recognize that the social network's acquisition of Instagram, a photo-sharing network that is particularly popular for teens today, might just be its saving grace. Not nearly as many parents or adults are quite as active on it as they are on Facebook.

Facebook will need to stay on top of updating its features and recognizing that teenagers don't want to use a site that feels dated or parent-friendly.
