Flood-Resistant Homes

H&P Architect's 'Blooming Bamboo House' is Built on Stilts

Built to withstand the harms and dangers of floods, the Blooming Bamboo House is as much a shelter from storms as it is a work of art.

Designed by H&P Architects, the structure of the Blooming Bamboo House is made out of tight rows of bamboo; other materials include bamboo wattle, fireboard and coconut leaves. The house is situated above ground with the use of stilts which protects its structure by allowing water to pass through during floods. This empty space beneath the house can be used to raise animals or grow plants. The roof can also be opened up during the summer for further ventilation.

The Blooming Bamboo House offers peace of mind for those who live in areas where extreme flooding is an everyday worry.
