American paralympic athlete Blake Leeper challenged engineers and designers to come up with next-generation running blades, and they have responded.
Product design and development company Altair and chemical and plastic supplier Eastman took Leeper up on the challenge and have come with a top-notch, premium running blade design worthy of Olympic and Paralympic athletes. The design is being unveiled at the 2014 IDSA conference.
The new blades are designed with a curvature on the bottom, allowing for increased speed and efficiency on corners and turns. A fabric shroud and latch are used to lock the apparatus in place so that it doesn't fall off. This features will give Blake Leeper and other wearers greater psychological security in that they don't have to be anxious that the blade may fall off if they run too hard.
