We all remember the great soul singers that broke through in the '60s like Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and Dusty Springfield, women who made that decade a brilliant period for the soul genre.
What we are seeing now is a revival of modern British soul singers, from Adele to Estelle and Joss Stone. The movement was spearheaded by the amazing worldwide breakthrough of Amy Winehouse, in whose footsteps Welsh singer Duffy has followed. Leona Lewis also broke out of 'The X-Factor' live show with a bang.
Hands up to these soul ladies who are more like pop soul divas than old soul mamas. It is exciting to have soul back.
