The Beautiful Mess Project Blurs the Line Between Art and Design

The Beautiful Mess sculpture is definitely that, a beautiful mess. Blurring the lines between art and design, it looks like a random three-dimensional scribble that has been frozen in mid-air.

Created by artist Alejandro Cerón, who hails from The Netherlands, the Beautiful Mess sculpture revolves around the idea of creation and context. It is context that more than often defines a piece of work as art or design. According to Ceron, "The Beautifull Mess pieces question distinctions between sculpture and design through the inclusion of the user in the creative process."

By provoking an interaction with these organic objects, the Beautiful Mess project hopes to illicit emotional responses in its viewers. It is currently being shown in Moscow at the Organic Dwelling: Biomimicry in Design & Architecture.
