Steam-Bent Pebble-Shaped Baskets

Benjamin Hubert's Layer Designs the 'Basket' for Fritz Hansen

Bejamin Hubert's design studio Layer crafts the 'Basket' for Fritz Hansen, which is a pebble-shaped timber basket. The basket is constructed using the label's unique steam-bending process, followed by a laminate pressing technique. The handle of the basket is a solid timber material, which goes through the steam bending process. The actual basket is constructed from a pressed laminated timber material and offers the options of either natural walnut, natural oak, or stained oak.

The Basket is a blend of the classic materiality of soft structures and functionality. The design takes on an asymmetrical structure in order to highlight the curvature and soft nature of the timber. It can be used as a functional storage home piece, or even as a decorative piece in a setting -- able to hold books, magazines, cushions, and other items. The long handle allows it to be easily portable from room to room.
