The Baobab Tree isn't an average tree--far from it, in fact. In place of the typical brown bark and green leaves, the Baobab Tree is made out of 80 different types of fabric creating 16 feet wide rings. A massive art installation, it can be found just outside of the Southbank Centre in London, England, providing yet another attraction for travellers visiting the city for the Olympics.
Created by Pirate Technics, the Baobab Tree was inspired by the African plant of the same name. A symbol for community, Creative Director Beatrix Eden of Pirate Technics observes, "During the summer, thousands of people will gather in London and visitors from across the globe will be stepping closer to one another." It will inspire chance encounters and conversations.
