Banishing Back Fat

New Plastic Surgery Technique Eliminates Rolls

Are you fond of wearing tight shirts but always frustrated to see the rolls of skin that bulge out in the back--especially around the bra line? If so, you are definitely not alone. A lot of women, even physically fit ones, have the dreaded back fat dilemma.

Back fat isn’t necessarily directly correlated with being overweight. It is also a result of aging, which cases it cannot be removed with exercise. Thanks to modern medicine, however, there is now a surgical procedure that can remove excess back skin.

Between 2001 and 2007, seven patients had the back lift surgical procedure completed--all had positive feedback. During the initial procedure, skin for about 8 to 10 inches wide is removed and the remaining tissues are connected. The back lift procedure takes about an hour. 22 months after the surgery, patients must come back in for a follow-up.

Minimal complications after the surgery can be expected but after a few days, physical activities can be started again. So far, 20 patients have undergone the back lift procedure. The number is projected to increase after word about the procedure gets out.  Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Magazine published a study on back lift surgery that indicates that the procedure is an effective method of contouring the middle and upper back.
