Vittoria Natarelli, Trend Hunter (INTERVIEW)

Natarelli Looks at Overly Attached Girlfriend Videos

Vittoria Natarelli, a former Editorial Intern at Trend Hunter, got completely swept up in the overly attached girlfriend viral video sensation. Natarelli is currently attending York University for professional writing with a minor in art history. In between, Natarelli has a strong fondness for music, Starbucks coffee and fashion.

How do you define cool?

I define cool as whatever entertains people. I know it's very different from the high school cool, which is being laid back, not being entertained, not being bothered by anything. Now, thanks to the Internet, cool is simply whatever is the most entertaining, or whatever people find entertainment in and what captures a large audience.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is viral videos because they can always perk you up. My favorite current example is the overly attached girlfriend cover of 'Call Me Needy.' In the video, she is doing a cover of the popular gem Call Me Maybe. She turns it into the creepiest song possible about a boy she saw and is overly attached to as if they're dating. I just think its hilarious.

What's your secret to uncovering the best trends?

My secret to uncovering the best trends is reading everything all the time. The summer I was here, I'd go home from work and still be obsessed with every single blog and newspaper. Just be on top of everything all the time. You don't lose that when you leave. Now, when I get home from school, I'm on the computer, I read everything and stay on top of everything. That's how you find everything before everyone else.

What is your favorite thing about working at Trend Hunter?

My favorite thing about working for Trend Hunter was the atmosphere. You'd come to work, ready to be on top of all the cool trends. Then, at lunch time, you'd all talk about what's cool, we were all friends and we were connected, on top of all the latest trends together.

What advice would you give to the business world?

My advice to the business world is keep it real. Through the Internet, we discover everything. Now there's this emphasis on brand. If your brand does not portray the reality that is your company, people will find out and it won't work out for you. Just keep it real.

Is there anything you'd like to add about Trend Hunter?

Definitely join Trend Hunter if you can. Even if it's just for a summer where you are an intern, you're not treated like an intern, you're treated like one of the team. You still feel that connection to everyone in the office. I feel like I learned so much. I saw a big improvement in my work, my writing and my research. I also thought that my time was valuable, and I had a lot of fun.
