'At the Back of the North Wind' Is an Artist's Search for Hyperborea

The At the Back of the North Wind exhibit is a mixture of the surreal and real. A three-part journey beginning in Astoria, Oregon, continuing to St. Petersburg and then to the White Sea, the site of the Soviet Gulag prison camps, New York-based artist Anton Ginzberg searches for a mythical land. This mythical land is known as Hyperborea, a place of pure bliss, perpetual sunlight and eternal springtime.

Part of the 54th Venice Biennale, the At the Back of the North Wind exhibit will be comprised of large-scale sculptural installations, eight site-specific bas reliefs, photography, paintings, a video installation and a series of works on paper. His shots of northern Russia, in which red smoke cuts through the wintry landscape, are a glimpse into his epic journey.
