Architektur Studio Redesigns Serbia's Beton Hala Center

Egypt's Architektur Studio has proposed an electricity-generating waterfront walkway for the Serbian city of Belgrade. The proposal was actually its entrance into a design contest held by the city, to find a new design for the city's Beton Hala Waterfront Center. Ideally, this design would reflect the capitol city's unique mix of modern looks and old-world values.

What Architektur Studio's entry lacks in looks, it makes up for in innovation. The designers are calling for strategically placed plates throughout the center's pedestrian walkway and roads that would generate electricity each time they are stepped on. Ideally, the plates would generate 420 KW of electricity everyday and around 302,400 KW per year. While the project may not capture the contest's crown, I wouldn't mind seeing some stateside city's pounce on Architektur Studio's design.
