Compact Architectural Stools

This Arched Seat is Efficient, Artistic and Accommodating in Form

Sure to remind the onlooker of architectural arches and vaulting, this arched seat boasts more than a simply beautiful reference to a grander scale of design. Created by Sayar & Gharibeh for a Squad Design competition, this piece had to conform to certain dimensions and production standards.

Working within the limitations of boxy measurements, the design duo cleverly came up with a structure of components that can be pulled out to accommodate two people sitting side by side. The result is a compact backless chair that can be packaged and shipped more cheaply than it would be at full expansion. Furthermore, the designers of the Arcus Stool were instructed to work with traditional wood crafting practices, by which they abided.

The implications of the restrictions and resourceful production of this arched seat have born a fairly minimalist winning piece that alludes to Lebanese architecture, exercises adaptability and boasts more eco-friendly distribution.
