These delicate anatomical sculptures are made from pieces of persevered animal heart. Specifically, artist Paddy Hartley has created a set of sculptural poppies made from the heart tissue of lambs.
This sculptural art project is titled 'Papaver Rhoeas' and uses the poppy flower as a symbol that pays tribute to the lives lost during the first World War. The project came about as a result of a two year collaboration between Hartley and several scientists, located at both Kings College London and at the Gordon Museum of Pathology.
The animal heart poppies will be displayed throughout London and inside of glass jars that are made to mimic used artillery shells. These sculptures will be on display from November 3rd to the 29th and will slowly decay and deteriorate over time.
