Enchantingly Contradictory Illustrations

Andrea Wan Creates Drawings Inspired by Folk-Lore

Andrea Wan is nothing if not eccentric. The Hong Kong-born, Berlin-based illustrator has made a career out of her unpredictability. Her compositions bring together many unlikely, often contradictory elements, such as feral jungles and shiny tech gadgets.

The enchantment in Wan's work undoubtedly comes from its refusal to assimilate. In fact, I would go as far as to say that her surreal drawings stick out like a sore thumb -- and I mean that in the best way possible. Browsing through Wan's peculiar portfolio is sure to take you on a wild ride which I can only compare to the process of dreaming; the absurd suddenly becomes logical and the nonsensical magically makes sense.

My favorite of her illustrations are those that feature iPhone-toting sloths, but every piece is worth a look.
