As we continue to deplete the world of oil, alternate forms of fuel become increasingly important -- enter the Amtrak Heartland Flyer. A passenger train traveling between Fort Worth and Oklahoma City, it is partly powered by beef-based biofuel.
Taking to the tracks next year, the Amtrak Heartland Flyer passenger train will be testing the new fuel development for 12 months, courtesy of a $274,000 grant from the Federal Railroad Administration.
According to Fast Company, the Amtrak Heartland Flyer "reduces hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions by 10%, cuts down on particulates by 15%, and reduces sulfates by 20% compared to standard diesel." Pretty impressive, I would say.
