Amber Mac, TV Star And Blogger (INTERVIEW)

Amber Mac has an impressive background in television. Having worked for CityTV, CBC, G4TechTV and MTV she certainly knows the world of television, but when she began writing under her own name at AmberMac.com, the TV host-turned-cewebrity talked to us about staying on the cutting edge.

3 Questions with Amber Mac

1. How do you keep your work on the cutting edge?

I listen a lot, listen to other people who are on the cutting edge of technology.  There are so many amazing ways to share ideas in our wired world, so I try to plug into many of them as possible to stay on top of the latest trends.  Whether it’s Twitter or TWiT, I’m there listening—and, of course, contributing to micro-blogging, podcasting, and more, when it makes sense.

2. How do you reset yourself to become creative? Do you have any rituals?

I have my most creative ideas when I’m jogging.  I started running six years ago.  I ran the Disney World Marathon, and then I was hooked on the sport.  Today, although my runs are shorter than 42KM, I still find that the outdoor exercise clears my head and helps me generate creative ideas.

3. What is an example of a time where you have thrown away an existing idea to force yourself to find something new?

I throw away new ideas all of the time when I’m writing.  For example, I’m writing a book right now about social media strategies and you would not believe my book name brainstorm.  Every time I think we’re close to the right title, I toss it out and start again.  As the Internet moves as such a rapid pace, I find that many ideas tend to get outdated quickly so it’s important for any trendsetter to detach from things and move on.
