At first glance, these jackets do not look out-of-the-ordinary, however, Alex Seton has given a memorable twist to these haunting designs: the whole exhibit is made out of marble.
The jackets were done to pay tribute to asylum seekers at the 2014 Adelaide Biennial titled Dark Heart. To be more specific, Alex Seton is referencing a May 2013 event in which asylum seekers were found on the Cocos Islands. The statues give off a haunting vibe, considering they are made from stone-cold marble, but appear so lifelike: an interpretation apt to what Seton was trying to signify.
