Airplane Publicity Stunts

Volkswagen Touareg Pulls 747

To promote its powerful new SUV, Volkswagen hooked up a Touareg to 747 jumbo jet. The SUV had no modifications to its engine, although the chasis was fitted with a couple extra tonnes of special equipment.

Implications - The Boeing 747-200 jumbo jet clocked in at a staggering weight of 155 tonnes, but even that hefty number wasn't enough to stop the 7 tonne V10 Touareg TDI from towing the massive jet across a runway at Dunsfold Aerodrome in the UK. With a specially fitted towing adapter connecting the two vehicles, and 4.3 tonnes of metal ballast, the beastly SUV made short work of its formidable task. What an achievement for Volkswagen!
