The Aenimal Bhulk is a 3D-printed mountain bike frame, developed by Italian design studio Eurocompositi, that is created out of natural resources and is therefore compostable.
This frame was created as a proof-of-concept and is made of polylactic acid using special fused deposition modeling technology, a kind of 3D printing in which objects are printed in layers from a molten polymer.
This frame is stiff and durable enough to function reasonably well as a mountain bike frame. A lot of thought was put into the dimensions, shapes and designs of the frame's tubes, ensuring that it functions well.
There's no word yet on whether the Aenimal Bhulk will ever the subject of full-on commercial production. However, it's an impressive accomplishment in that it proves the kinds of components that can be crafted together to be compostable.
