CO2 Sequestering Pipelines

ADM Has Developed a Pipeline Plan for Midwestern Carbon Recapture

'ADM,' the United States-based multinational food and commodities trading company, has announced a new partnership with 'Wolf Carbon Solutions' where the two will construct an ADM pipeline across the midwest in Iowa and Illinois. This pipeline will be 350 miles long and will connect its plants located in Cedar Rapids and Clinton to its sequestration site located in Decatur, Illinois.

The plan for the pipeline was made with the combination of ADM's sequestration expertise and Wolf Carbon Solutions' carbon capture and pipeline transportation expertise. The two companies will be able to transfer 12 million tons of liquified CO2 from across the midwest to a sequestration site to be repurposed. This does not include only liquified CO2 from ADM plants, as the pipeline will contain "spare capacity to serve other third-party customers" who have a similar carbon-capturing use for it.

While this pipeline has not yet been approved by the relevant state entities, it is not the first proposed carbon-reducing pipeline proposed in the midwest in recent years, and it will likely gain approval if the positives are demonstrated clearly.
Trend Themes
1. Carbon Sequestration Pipelines - There is an opportunity for companies to partner and develop pipelines for carbon sequestration on a larger scale.
2. Third-party Carbon Capture - Companies can develop pipelines with spare capacity to serve third-party customers who have similar carbon-capturing use for it.
3. Midwest Carbon Recapture - There is a trend of proposed carbon-reducing pipelines in the midwest and companies can take advantage of the opportunity for partnerships and investments in this region.
Industry Implications
1. Energy - The energy industry can invest in pipelines for carbon sequestration and transportation, potentially leading to a shift towards a more sustainable energy future.
2. Food and Commodities Trading - Companies like ADM can invest in carbon capture technology as part of their sustainability efforts and partner with other companies to develop carbon sequestration pipelines.
3. Carbon Capture and Storage - The carbon capture and storage industry can partner with other industries to develop pipelines for carbon sequestration and transportation, potentially leading to significant CO2 reductions.
