In response to the latest travel ban introduced by the US President, a group of Toronto chefs have banded together to throw a pro-immigration food event called the '6ix Banned Nations Dinner.'
The 6ix Banned Nations Dinner is a ticketed dinner that honors the cuisine of the six nations affected by the US President's latest order. Headed up by Chef Hemant Bhagwani of Toronto's Indian Street Food Co., the dinner will showcase foods from Somalia, Sudan, Libya, Iran, Syria and Yemen -- plus additional dishes from Iraq. Those attending can expect to dine on everything from Somalian samosas and Sudanese shawarma to Iranian chicken and Yemeni honey cake.
Not only does the dinner uses food to send a powerful message about "inclusion, acceptance and love," but $20 from each ticket will be used to fund programs directed by YMCA Immigrant Services.
