3D-Printed Car Transmissions

An Engineer Created This Working 5-Speed Transmission for a Toyota

This 3D-printed car transmission was designed to fit a Toyota 22RE engine. The fully functional model is the work of mechanical engineer Eric Harrell of Santa Cruz, California.

The 5-speed 3d-printed car transmission is Harrell's second attempt at a working car part and follows his fully functional Toyota engine project. The engine is was also made using additive manufacturing techniques and has been combined with its accompanying transmission.

The engineer's combined car part project was created using complex 3D-printing practices and has inspired 8 other inventors to try their hand at their very own version of it. This inspiring project illustrates how far additive manufacturing has come and suggests that the future of car parts will be one fulled by 3D-printing technology.
