The 21400mm Chair by Oki Sato is a Visually Striking Piece of Furniture

Although the 21400mm Chair can be mistaken for a work of art, in a way that is because it is a work of art. Designed by Oki Sato, the designer behind Tokyo studio nendo, the 21400mm Chair takes optical illusions to a very minimalist and functional level. It does so by being constructed out of metal rods that have been set on a diagonal path throughout its construction.

At times, the 21400mm Chair looks two dimensional. Everything from this mind trick to the way it casts a shadow around itself will captivate viewers. It was manufactured in collaboration with Ochiai-Seisakusho, a Tokyo-based company that specializes in precision metalwork. Book of Joe writes, "The 'morphing' nature of the 21400mm chair — its visually changeable quality — is very arresting and requires the viewer to observe it carefully to perceive the functional object."
