Occulating Solar Eclipses

The Montage of Time-Lapse Video from the May 10th 2013 Solar Eclipse

On May 10th, the world witness one of the most miraculous meteorological phenomenons: the 2013 solar eclipse. With only an average of two eclipses taking place over the span of a year, the sight of a solar eclipse is breathtaking and stunningly bizarre.

When the seasons change, it’s typical that the sun and the moon cross orbits. When they do, there are a couple minutes where the moon passes in front of the sun and creates the illusion that the sun’s light is being completely blocked out. What is left is the perimeter of the sun showing behind the dark interior of the moon. Lucky for us, the recent 2013 solar eclipse was filmed several times fom Piblbara, Australia and captured using time-lapse technology. The montage of the clips are both awe-inspiring and visually endearing.
