On Sunday, August 14th, a group of Torontonians is throwing a party to commemorate the 2003 blackout, which knocked out power to most of Ontario as well as parts of the Northeastern and Midwestern United States. The 13th Annual Blackout Anniversary Party begins at Jimmie Simpson Park with samba, dancing and musical workshops.This includes performances by Samba Elegua, Blokoloko, New Model Circus Army and more. Party-goers will then set off on a group bike ride or foot parade around the park. The final activity planned is a magical after-party at a secret location.
By commemorating the 2003 blackout, the event gives Torontonians a chance to take a break from electricity and connect with other people in the community.
