20-Minute Toronto Makeover for Earth Day

Toronto has really basic, yet eye-catching, signs all around the city to promote a community clean-Up. Just in time for Earth Day on April 22, Mayor David Miller is hoping people will be inspired to pitch in on April 18 to make the city a greener place.

The 20-Minute Toronto Makeover takes place the Friday before Earth Day and encourages "Torontonians at work, school or at home to stop what you're doing at 2:00 p.m. and come outside to do a 20-minute clean-up blitz around your office, school or neighbourhood," the City of Toronto says.

The campaign asks that each person dedicates a mere 20 minutes of their day to help clean, and green, the community. As an individual, that's as simple as walking up and down their street to collect garbage or bring bottles to the recycling depot.

The city has also arranged group events on Saturday to help people collaborate to clean parks or other public spaces. The city helps organize a pick up time and location for the accumulated garbage.

This is the 10th year the city has put on the event and they anticipate this year will have a record amount of participants.
