The Zuiderzee Stool Takes Milking to the Museum

In true purist form, the designers of the Zuiderzee Stool looked to simple examples of functional seating for inspiration. It turns out that their guiding light came from the depths of Zuiderzeemuseum's storage rooms.

As the creators of the Zuiderzee Stool worked at the Dutch museum to develop new seating for the information centre, they saw an old cow-milking stool. Roused by the possibilities of reinventing the utilitarian artifact, Studio Maarten Kolk & Guus Kusters modeled their stool on the fundamental form of a three-leg design with a handle beneath the seat for easy grip and mobility.
