Zombie Ants

Fans of ‘The Walking Dead,’ brace yourselves because real life zombie ants are in town. That being said, these aren’t your average creatures that just happened to get a virus and die and return from the dead in a brainless, horrifying state. These ants have a whole other problem on their hands.

Sophisticated parasitic fungi have taken over their minds. You’d better believe it! These rude fungi that live deep underground tropical forests, attack only a single species of ant. Once an ant walks through some of its fungal spores, the spores dive inside the ant, taking over its nervous system and brain. What you hear next will amaze you.

The fungus makes the ant climb a tree and bite into a leaf then eventually the ant dies. A stalk that grows out of the dead ant’s head drops more fungal spores onto the ant colony to spread this insane disease.

So if you’re a zombie lover and you can’t wait on the next outbreak of some mutated rabies virus, then spend some time learning about these ants and you’ll keep that excitement alive.
