Zero Waste Scotland Recycles & Reuses Old 'Nappies'

In Scotland, about 16 million disposable diapers are thrown into landfills each year, and now Zero Waste Scotland has come up with a plan to alleviate this horrible environmental problem. Zero Waste Scotland's goal is to convert all these old diapers, or "nappies" as they're called in Scotland, into new and functional items ranging from park benches and fencing to cardboard and roof tiles.

The organization is inviting 36,000 homes to participate in the project, which will last for six weeks. Households can leave their dirty diapers along the curb to be picked up or they can drop them off at specified recycling areas. The project will be a pilot test to determine whether the initiative will work on a larger scale in the future.
