Transient Art Pavilion

Zaha Hadid's Chanel Design

On 28 February, the new Chanel 'Mobile Art Container' will be unveiled in Hong Kong, designed by Zaha Hadid, as a transient art pavilion that will roam Tokyo, NYC, London, Moscow and Paris until 2010. According to Hadid, the design is "a celebration of the iconic work of Chanel, unmistakeable for its smooth layering of exquisite details that together create an elegant, cohesive whole." While some bloggers muse that it looks like a flying handbag, I think it looks like a sleek, high gloss UFO in Hadid's trademark sculptural and fluid style.

It's hard to imagine what this will look like when its grounded in the Star Ferry Car Park in Hong Kong's Central, but Chanel promises this art pavilion will exhibit contemporary art from a range of artists from Sophie Calle to Yoko Ono.
