Andrew Robichaud, Trend Hunter (INTERVIEW)

Robichaud Discusses Refreshing Conceptual Yo-Yo Videos

As Andrew Robichaud was one of the first editorial interns at Trend Hunter, he knows a good trend when he sees one, which is what these conceptual yo-yo videos accomplish. As a graduated intern, he also provides great tips on how to scope out the best trends, as well as offers up great insight on how to strive to be extraordinary. Though he learnt a lot in his professional career during his time at Trend Hunter, he also gushes about the things he learnt about in his personal life by working within a welcoming and enthusiastic atmosphere.

What is your favorite trend and why?

My favorite trend is conceptual yo-yo videos that I found. What they do is they make the yo-yo stay still while they show you what they would really be doing to make the trick work, but the yo-yo is animated and stays in the same location. It is a play on the actual movement of the yo-yos.

How do you define cool?

Cool is something that you want to tell other people. It's not necessarily something that everybody already has or something everybody has already seen. I think cool is defined by something you see as cool, it's your own cool.

What is your secret to uncovering trends?

My secret to uncovering the best trends was to always keep looking. I knew if I just kept pushing the limit and went a little deeper that I'd find that diamond in the rough or that little gem that was special to me and something that once again I wanted to show people.

What inspires or excites you?

What inspires me are things outside of the ordinary. When people or things or animals show you something that you didn't expect, that's above and beyond that makes you want to strive for more, makes you want to raise the bar a little bit and try to be that extraordinary.

What is your advice to the business world?

My advice for the business world would be to, once again, to keep moving. If you stand still, other people will move past you. Keep moving, keep looking, keep searching. If you're not moving forward, someone else will be and you will be left behind.

What did you enjoy most about Trend Hunter?

I think my experience with Trend Hunter has changed me as a journalist. I would advise for anybody to apply. Anybody who is interested in cutting edge and cool. There are things that I learnt about myself and about different products and different fields that I actually would have never dreamed of and I got that from the internship here. You get to work with people who have the same mindset, the same free spirits and the same enthusiasms. I couldn't have said enough about being part of this team.
