Eco Cardboard Can-Carriers

Wild Rose Craft Brewery Debuts Cardboard Can-Carrier to Reduce Waste

The Wild Rose Brewery announced that it has switched from plastic to cardboard eco-carriers for its 4-packs of cans.

Although Wild Rose's former plastic carriers were technically recyclable, many Alberta processing facilities could not accept them, so they ended up in landfills. Even though plastic carriers are recyclable, their thin nature often prevents them from being effectively separated from paper and ends up contaminating the whole load of recyclables. Designed to improve convenience, portability, and recyclability after use, the new carriers are made of renewable, responsibly sourced, recyclable paperboard.

Wild Rose's carbon footprint will be reduced in two ways as a result of this eco-friendly venture. As a result of the change from plastic to paper, a higher volume of materials will be recycled. Plastic is recycled by only 9% in Canada, while paper is recycled 70%. The second reduction in waste will come from the transport of the carriers. Since paper-based carriers have a smaller footprint than plastic carriers, Wild Rose can order more of them less frequently.
