The 'Vulcan' Uses Machine Learning to Precisely Extract Weeds

FarmWise, an agriculture tech company spun off of research and innovations generated at MIT, has launched a high-tech weeding robot that is designed to combine the wonders of engineering, farming knowledge and machine learning in order to precisely pluck out weeds without damaging key crop plants.

The 'Vulcan' weeding robot comes with either one or three platforms, each of which can handle up to eight rows of plants. Designed to be towed by a tractor, the robot makes use of powerful weed-yanking blades that make use of an 'Intelligent Plant Scanner' mechanism that uses a microprocessor and multiple cameras. By making use of AI algorithms, the mechanism can identify weeds before prompting the blades to go about yanking them.

Available for preorder, the 'Vulcan' is a fine example of how AI technologies can be leveraged in the agriculture industry.
