Korean artist Lee Bul is presenting his latest installation, titled 'Via Negativa II,' at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in New York.
The installation is reminiscent of the 'Infinity Room,' an installation by Yayoi Kusama that featured suspended LED lights in a mirror-paneled cube. Similarly, Bul's 'Negativa' is a series of illuminated, mirrored corridors that form a confusing labyrinth. Enter at your own risk, as it's easy to become disoriented in the mirrored maze. Participants are even required to wear protective booties to help them navigate the mirrored floors.
Bul's intention was to disrupt the viewer's perception of reality by interfering with their cognitive abilities. The gallery further elucidates by saying, "Lee’s works seek to delineate the limits of the human body and mind, and the fallibility of the quest for perfection."
