'Unpacked Halifax' is Canada's First Zero Waste Store on the East Coast

As of May 2017, 'Unpacked Halifax' will be the first zero waste store to be introduced to Canada's East Coast. The business plans to offer a range of package-free food, home and body products, making it possible for "customers to divert household waste while accessing healthy and affordable local products."

Until the shop's opening in the spring, Unpacked Halifax is operating as a pop-up store to supply people with more sustainable ways of consuming a variety of ordinary goods that are often needlessly packaged in plastic and other containers.

As well as helping many consumers to reduce or potentially eliminate the amount of packaging waste that comes into their homes, zero waste stores of this kind highlight where other businesses and brands can adopt more sustainable practices.
