This Tulipwood Table Offers Stability and Drama

Furniture company Barnby & Day designed the Round Tulipwood Table for Alex de Rijke as part of the The Wish List, an intriguing installation on exhibit at this year's London Design Festival. The Wish List was launched by the American Hardwood Export Council and Benchmark Furniture.

Working with members from Benchmark gave the Barnby & Day the opportunity to experiment with materials, as they had an extensive range to choose from. Tulipwood was chosen because Rijke had experienced immense success with the material in a previous project, titled 'Endless Stair.' The designers treated the wood with a cross laminating technique, a method which offers the structure more strength and stability.

Finally, the round silhouette was decided upon because it offered a sense of theatricality.
