This Lithium-Ion Battery is Designed to Power Transient Devices

A group of scientists and engineers working out of Iowa State University have devised an innovative new battery that is designed specifically to power transient devices.

Developed by a team led by professor Reza Montazami, this particular battery adopts the 2.5-volt lithium-ion format -- what makes it so special is the fact that it completely dissolves in water within half an hour. However, it is still strong enough to power a calculator for as long as 15 minutes. Indeed this happens to make this battery the very first transient or self-destructing battery that is still practical enough to use with regular gadgets.

While one of these individual batteries cannot be used to power large transient devices, what's great about the system is that you can create eco-systems of self-destructing batteries that can work well for high-powered applications.
