Tidal Turbine Developments

These Turbines Will Harness Tidal Energy to Power Thousands Of Homes

MeyGen is a futuristic and high-tech project that will make use of a veritable army of offshore tidal tirbunes to produce up to 398 Megawatts' worth of energy for the benefit of the UK's national electricity grid.

These tidal turbines look a lot like wind turbines, but their operation is rather different. Because sea water poses different movements and densities than air, these turbines feature smaller blades. Some of them can turn 180 degrees, so that they can change their direction to keep up with the tide.

The MeyGen development's tidal turbines will be installed over a period of time, with the end result being 269 turbines that will be able to generate enough power to take care of 175,000 homes. This project is a fine example of technology working in conjunction with nature's gifts to produce green energy for human use.
